Summer has arrived. This year the start of the season has usually hot days, in fact a heatwave for us to hold BBQ’s, picnics in the park, exotic holidays abroad and sipping a refreshing glass of your favourite tipple in the sun. The summer season also marks the halfway point in the year, making the summer break the perfect time to reflect on your year so far and set goals for the rest of the year. Summer is the perfect time to reflect, reset and get fired up for the rest of the year. Whether you are planning a summer of relaxation or are ready to smash the rest of 2022, its always a great time to do a mid-year reset, especially now as things are looking more back to normal and we are able to plan again.

Here are 7 ways to Boost Your Mood and Reset This Summer:

1. Get away for the summer break and clear your head

The summer break should be exactly that - a break, not just for the kids but for you as well. There is nothing like a change of scenery to help you to relax and clear your head and its been such a long time since we have been able to get away. Take time away from the usual hustle and grind to give you the headspace reflect. Take that dream trip across the world, or a couple of days at the seaside or a family camping trip, a change of scenery will do you the world of good.

A tip loved by celebrities and frequent travellers is to take a candle with you when you travel. Bringing a mini candle can make your hotel room or self-catered apartment smell and feel like a home from home, helping you to relax and enjoy your break. Plus, the aromatherapy benefits of the mood-boosting essential oil blends in our mini votive candles can also help you to feel energised and uplifted, helping you find a positive headspace and enjoy your summer break.

2. Lose yourself in a book during the summer break

“Reading is a passport to countless adventures” Mary Pope Osborne.

I’m not a big reader, but reading is something that has had a huge positive impact on my daily mental health. As someone who has suffered from anxiety for a number of years, reading to grow my mind is something I have found really beneficial and I find reading is a great way to boost my mood and feel energised during the summer break. Authors I love include Jay Shetty, Vex King and Gabrielle Bernstein - I would definitely recommend adding these authors to your summer reading list.

3. Try something new to feel energised during the summer break

What is that one thing that you have always wanted to try but haven’t quite got round to? Trying something new is a great way to broaden your horizons. Write yourself a summer bucket list of different things you would like to try during the summer break. Trying something new doesn’t have to be big scary things like swimming with sharks or climbing Ben Nevis (although if you want to put those on your list - go for it!). You could also try something new from home like knitting, meditation or cold showers. Try something new during the summer break - what’s the worst that can happen?

4. Boost your mood during the summer break by spending time with loved ones

Spending time with your loved ones, people who lift you up and support you is a definite way to boost your mood during the summer break. Discuss your goals and plans for the rest of the year with your loved ones, and ask for their support or work through any worries together. Talking to your loved ones about your goals is a great way to boost your confidence and they can hold you accountable to make those dreams a reality.

5. Feel energised during the summer break by getting up earlier

“Winning starts at your beginning. And your first hours are where the great heroes are made. Own your mornings and you’ll master your life.” The 5am Club, Robin Sharma.

Your morning routine can make or break your day. It is easy to enter the summer break with big plans for reflection time and goal setting, but before we know it, the schools are back and we are rocketing towards Christmas without any sense of direction. During the summer break try getting up 20 minutes earlier each morning, make yourself a cuppa and use the time to give yourself the headspace to reflect on the year so far and your plan for the next 6 months. Building this time into your daily routine will ensure that you end the summer break feeling energised and inspired, ready to smash the rest of 2022. For more information about how an early start can revolutionise your morning, I highly recommend reading The 5am Club

6. Journaling to boost your mood during the summer break

I am a big fan of taking time out of your day to journal, write down or just say 3 daily affirmations in the morning and 3 things your are grateful for in the evening. This is a game-changer to help with boosting your mood during the summer and can also be incorporated into your morning routine. To create a feeling of positivity and harmony whilst you journal, light your Gratitude candle or sit near your Gratitude diffuser. Our Gratitude range includes mindfully blended warm and earthy notes of rock rose, Indian sandalwood, and cedarwood to help bring mental clarity, reduce anxiety, and allow for centering, to give you the headspace you need whilst journaling.

7. Feel energised by getting outside during the summer break

My final tip for boosting your mood and feeling energised during the summer is to get outside and go for a walk. Over the last couple of years, I have taken to walking and aim to get my 10k steps in each day. Going for a walk with somebody can be a great way to boost your mood whilst walking alone can give you the headspace to mull things over and reflect - maybe listening to a podcast - I am really loving listening to Steven. Plus, the warmer temperatures during summer makes getting outside and going for a walk during the summer even more enjoyable and extra vitamin D should also help you to feel energised.
